QUE CREEK MINERS’ RESCUE
Nine miners in Western Pennsylvania are still alive and about to be rescued.
The Inquirer had reporters and photographers on the scene at the Que Creek mine waiting for this moment.

… I am watching a press conference on CNN and hear a spokesman say they will be using a basket for the rescue and he had drawn it out and given the sketch to the press.
Just what I needed. But no one in Philadelphia had seen the drawing. A staffer took the image and filed it as a photo. The sketch (left) was all I needed to produce a graphic (right) on deadline, first news cycle after the event.
A final perilous journey was ahead of the miners as one-by-one they were lifted the height of a 20-story building in a basket 19-inches-wide inside.
